MDSU and SVPUAT Organize Joint Mega Tree Plantation Drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign
In alignment with the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s Mega Plantation Campaign and the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, Meerut and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), Meerut, organized a grand joint tree plantation drive to promote environmental conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable development through active public participation.
The programme was held under the visionary guidance and leadership of Major General Deep Ahlawat, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, MDSU and Dr. Triveni Dutt, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SVPUAT.
Organized in compliance with the directions issued by the Raj Bhavan Secretariat and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the campaign reflected the unwavering commitment of both universities towards environmental protection and the creation of a greener future. A wide variety of indigenous and environmentally significant saplings were planted across the campus, with equal emphasis on their long-term care and conservation to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and ecologically balanced environment for future generations.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Registrars, Finance Officers, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, officers, staff, and a large number of students from both universities, who collectively took part in the plantation drive and reaffirmed their commitment to environmental sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Deep Ahlawat, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, stated, “Tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial activity but a moral responsibility towards nature and future generations. Every citizen must not only plant a tree but also nurture and protect it. The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign inspires us to express our gratitude towards our mothers and our motherland while transforming environmental conservation into a people’s movement.”
During the programme, a diverse range of saplings was planted jointly by both universities. The initiative emerged as a significant and inspiring contribution towards strengthening the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and transforming it into a mass movement. The event concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to protect and nurture the planted saplings, undertake more plantation drives, and actively contribute towards building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
