Admission Process
Guideline for Admission in B.P.E.S. (Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports), B.Sc. (Yoga) and M.Sc. (Yoga)
- Eligibility criteria for Direct Admission
Direct admission will be provided to outstanding sportspersons who have represented India or won medals in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, South Asian Games, Commonwealth Youth Games, Asian Youth Games, World Championships, Asian Championships, Youth World Championships, or any other equivalent competition. Direct admission will also be provided to medallists in SGFI National Games, Khelo India Youth Games, Senior National Championships, Junior National Championships, Sub-Junior National Championships, or any other equivalent competition recognized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Ten percent (10%) seats shall be reserved for direct admission in all courses for outstanding sportspersons who have achieved excellence in Olympic disciplines only. These seats shall be over and above the sanctioned intake capacity.

- Admission Procedure
The admission process for the various programs comprises three components i.e. Physical Fitness Test, Sports Skill Proficiency Test and Sports Weightage.

Note: The merit shall be determined based on the aggregate of the candidate’s qualifying examination percentage, weightage after qualifying the Physical Fitness Test, Sports Skill Proficiency Test, and Sports Weightage.
Structure of Academic Programme
Each course offered under the National Education Policy (NEP) with the semester system shall be denoted in terms of credits. Each course/subject in every programme of study shall carry a specified number of credits, which shall be awarded upon successful completion of the respective course/subject.
- Selection of Players (Direct Admission/Sports Quota)
The University will grant admission to talented players against the Sports Quota (as fixed from time to time).
Note: All players admitted under the Sports Quota shall submit an undertaking to the Secretary, Sports Council, at the time of admission. In the undertaking, they must state that they will participate/position in Inter-University/National/International Tournaments. Any student found not serious in practice or who does not participate in Inter-University tournaments shall be liable to have the concession withdrawn. In such cases, the University reserves the right to cancel the concession, and the student shall be required to pay the full fee applicable to regular students.
- Co-Curricular & Extracurricular Activities
The University will promote cultural, social and other activities, by providing the students with an opportunity to participate in dramatics, debates, symposia, quiz competitions etc. The students are encouraged to get involved extensively in activities like NCC, Culture and Adventure Programs to develop leadership qualities and all-round personality development.
- Sports Participation
Sports are an integral part of the university’s academic program. University teams shall participate in various competitions and championships.
- Awards and Incentives
To encourage and motivate outstanding sportspersons, the University shall reward position holders at the end of the academic session suitable.

- Conduct of Special / Supplementary Examinations for Pursuing Talent Outside Academics
Students participating in Inter-University, State, National, and International Sports & Games Tournaments/Championships or students attending State/National/AIU Camps shall be permitted to appear in Special/Supplementary Semester Examinations if the scheduled examination dates coincide with, or fall close to, the dates of their competitions/tournaments.
- Discontinuation of scholarship and incentive
Scholarship and incentives may be discontinued in case of decline in the sports performance and disciplinary grounds.

Note: Trainees shall be shortlisted for the Written Test, General Fitness Test, and Specialized Sports Skill Test in a 1:3 ratio based on their total score. For this purpose, marks obtained in Educational Qualifications, Sports Achievements, and Admission Test Performance shall be considered.

- Syllabus for the Admission Test
The Admission Test shall comprise the following components:
a. Specialized Sports Theory Test
- Basic terminology and abbreviations related to the concerned sport.
- Technical rules and regulations of the sport.
- Specifications of play fields, courts, arenas, and equipment.
- Competition formats and tournament structures.
b. General Knowledge
- Current affairs.
- Basic sports awareness at the National and International levels.
- Sports awards and honours.
- Rural sports in the country.
- Sports promotion schemes and initiatives.
c. Logical Reasoning and Coaching Aptitude
- Numerical reasoning.
- Relationship and sequential reasoning.
- Diagrammatic reasoning.
- Reasoning patterns of Intermediate standard.
- Fault finding and problem-solving ability.
- Analytical aptitude.
d. Language and Communication Test
- English grammar.
- Comprehension.
- Synonyms and antonyms.
- Language skills of Matriculation standard.
- News/Essay writing (Sports Journalism and Mass Communication)
e. Basic Computer Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and MS Excel.
- Computer terminology.
- Internet terminology and basic concepts.
- GENERAL FITNESS & SPORTS SKILL TESTS
(i) Candidates shall be required to undergo the General Fitness Test, which will be qualifying in nature and Sports-Specific Skill Test (20 Marks) as part of the admission process. Sports-Specific Skill Test shall carry weightage in the preparation of the overall merit list.
Note:- PG Diploma in Equestrianism shall be introduced, detailed information regarding the programme, including the admission process and other relevant guidelines, will be notified separately through the University’s official website.
Attendance and Condonation
- Attendance of players in regular academic classes shall be considered based on the recommendation of the Director/Deputy Director/Assistant Director of Physical Education. The period of leave taken for practice sessions, competitions, and coaching camps shall be treated as attendance and counted as being present.
- For UG and PG Courses: Students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in the prescribed course, separately in both Theory and Practical components, to be eligible to appear in the University Examination. Students having less than 75% attendance may apply for condonation of attendance to the competent authority of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, Meerut. Such applications must be supported by valid documentary evidence of participation in sports competitions, tournaments, training camps, or other University-approved programmes.
- For PG Diploma Courses: During the entire academic year, a minimum of 85% attendance in each semester shall be compulsory for appearing in the examination. Any leave required must be approved well in advance by the faculty, in charge of, the concerned academic centre.
Reservation of Seats (All Courses)
- The All India Open Intake/Seats shall not exceed 20% of the sanctioned intake/seats, including candidates from the State of Uttar Pradesh.
- Reservation of seats shall be made in accordance with the Reservation Policy of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and shall be subject to any changes, amendments, or modifications made by the Government of Uttar Pradesh from time to time.
- The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate shall be considered in the prescribed format as provided in Annexure-II.
- The benefits of reservation under the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer) categories shall be available only to candidates who are originally domiciled in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates belonging to these categories from other States shall be treated as General Category candidates.
- Candidates seeking reservation under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category shall submit a self-attested copy of the disability certificate issued by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the concerned district along with the application form.
- If a candidate does not claim reservation in the application form, he/she shall be treated as a General Category candidate, and no request for change of category shall be entertained after submission of the application form.
- In the event that the requisite number of eligible candidates are not available in any reserved category, the vacant seats may be filled by candidates belonging to the General Category, in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
- A reservation of 20% of seats in each Sports Discipline shall be applicable for women candidates in the PG Diploma in Sports Coaching Programme with effect from the Academic Session 2026-27. In case sufficient eligible women candidates are not available against the reserved seats, the same shall be allocated to male candidates on the basis of merit.
General Information and Guidelines for all courses
- The provisionally selected candidates for each course will undergo document verification for final selection. Eligibility for admission shall be decided within the respective categories and shall remain purely provisional, based on the information provided by the candidates in their application forms. Therefore, candidates are advised to fill out the form carefully. If a candidate declares that they have passed the qualifying examination and claims eligibility under a reserved category but fails to submit the required documents at the time of admission, or if the documents are not found to be in order, their provisional selection shall be automatically cancelled.
- If a candidate has been convicted by a court of law, the candidate shall not be granted admission.
- The University reserves the right to cancel the admission of a candidate at any time if it comes to the notice of the University authorities that he/she was not entitled to admission in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations. Admission may also be cancelled at any stage if deemed necessary in the interest of the University.
- The Admission of students to the concerned course shall remain provisional and shall be confirmed by the Admission Committee of the University only after the verification of the original certificates and documents on the basis of which admission has been granted.
- If two or more candidates secure equivalent marks/rank in the merit index, the merit for admission shall be determined as follows:
- If the obtained marks, rank or merit are the same, preference shall be given to the candidate who has secured a higher percentage of marks in the High School or equivalent examination.
- If the marks obtained in the High School or equivalent examination are also the same, preference shall be given to the older candidate.
- For admission, the claims of applicants included in a particular merit list shall cease after the scheduled reporting time. The name on the photo identification card must match the name as in the application submitted. If the name has been changed due to marriage or for any other reason candidate must show the relevant document (in original) at the time of document
verification. - For all purposes, the decision of the Admission Committee, with the approval of the ViceChancellor, who is the Chairperson, shall be final and binding on all the applicants.
- Ragging of any kind is strictly prohibited/banned in the University campus as per the Government orders and existing laws. Anybody found indulging in ragging shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with the prevailing laws. As per the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, if any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the University authorities, the concerned students shall be given an opportunity to explain. If the explanation is not found satisfactory, the University shall not hesitate to expel such students from the University.
- The information contained in this Information Brochure is intended only for general guidance and should not be treated as a legal document. It may be changed, modified, or amended from time to time by the Academic Bodies, Admission Committee, or competent authorities of the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, Meerut.
- It is to be noted that ignorance of any rule shall not be accepted as an excuse for its violation.
- The construction work of the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is currently in progress. Until the completion of the University campus, theory classes shall be conducted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, and practical classes shall be conducted at a facility deemed appropriate by the university authorities. - The University reserves the right to cancel any course or specific Sports Discipline, change the venue of a course, or modify the duration of the course due to insufficient response, administrative requirements, or any other related reasons.
- If a student chooses to withdraw from the Diploma Course in Sports Coaching in which he/she is enrolled, the Institute shall follow the fee refund policy prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), 2018 or amended from time to time. The refund of fees shall be processed strictly in accordance with the provisions and guidelines contained therein.
