Major Dhyan Chand Sports University BPES Student Clinches Silver in National Shooting Championship

Yash Ahlawat, a student of Bachelor of Physical Education (BPES) at Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut, won the silver medal in the Deaf (Men) category of the 25-metre Standard Pistol (ISSF) event at the 68th National Shooting Championship, held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, New Delhi, on Tuesday.

An elated Ravinder Ahlawat, father of Yash, said this was his son’s first medal at the National Championship, though he had earlier won medals at zonal-level competitions. He added that Yash developed a passion for shooting after watching senior shooters and began training at the Palhera Shooting Range under the supervision of his coach.

Yash is currently pursuing his BPES degree from Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut, and continues his training with a focus on higher competitive goals.
The achievement aligns with the vision of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to develop the state as a national sports hub by strengthening sports university, improving infrastructure, and creating structured pathways for athletes to excel at national and international levels.

Maj Gen Deep Ahlawat(Rtd), Vice Chancellor, Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut, said:
“Yash Ahlawat’s performance reflects the growing sports culture at the university. We are focused on building a robust academic and high-performance environment that supports athletes across disciplines, including para and deaf sports.”
